HORROR CONVENTIONS

Genre conventions

The key aspects of a successful horror film, are camera angles/shots, music and lighting. The more classic horror films evolve around scary music and dark lighting but I have noticed that more recent and contempory horror films have no music during scenes to build suspense. But have only diegetic music, which is mainly just silence.
The use of lighting is usually dark and dull to create a sinister atmosphere. And camera angles are mostly shot directly behind or in front of the character to involve the audience. Restricting the audience’s view of what else is happening or about to appear in the scene

Horror music:

Mostly involves strings, classical music. The higher the pitch the more the audience can predict something is going to happen and the increase of volume also implies that.
