RESEARCH ON OTHER HORROR FILM OPENINGS

the grudge: a certificate 15

at the beggining of the the film, writing appears on the screen, and slowlyfades out, an introductory sentence that unfolds a shot that panns across a city in japan. it suddenly then switches to a static shot on a man. a shot reverse shot takes place on a close up of a womans face to the man in previous shot. A shot is taken just over the shoulder, and then a man commits suicide, falling off a balcony. Another panning shot is used to show her reaction to this so the camera pans from her face back to his body. Red credits signifying blood follow, in combination with japanese writing. A hand wipes out the credits and a ripplr effect moves the credits. the duration of the opening is 2 minutes and 55 seconds.


the ring:

this film is a certificate 15,

the film commences with a zooming in shot into a house, it is also raining which reinforces an eery, negative atmosphere. the scene quickly changes to a s shot of a girl watching tv in a bedroom. it is accompanied with dull, low lighting. There is speech between 2 girls in a midshot. A static shot is used on one of the girls. in the background the sound of the rain is perpetual and an undistinct voice is heard. Suddenly the phone rings and the reaction of the girls faces show a combination of worry and shock and fear. The camera then zooms in on a clock displaying the 10th hour in the morning. the duration of the opening sequence is 3 minutes 80.


Wolf Creek:

this film is a certificate 18

the film opens with text on the screen, displaying some facts related to the films story. Then there is diegetic sound of birds. There is a wide shot of a beach at dusk, sunset, with two girls writing on post cards. there is then a low angled shot of the palm trees, with the sunlight seeking through. there then is a section dedicated into showing a scene in a car garage. and the opening continues with a duration of 3 minutes 10 seconds.



panic room:

is a certificate 15 film,

the film commences with an establishing shot with credits incorporated and was outlined and framed. A tracking shot is then used in a point of view shot of one of the characters looking around the house. It then reaches to the characters level of height. the camera then zooms into the face of a woman and walks towards a static shot. then the camera shows her walking up the stairs. A security system is shown in the house as the woman enters and then a mid shot is used to portray their reaction to the situation. the opening of the film is 3 minutes and 30 seconds
